United States of Pop 2008

At lot of critics and artists are satisfied at the end of the year with just making “Best of” lists, giving their top ten music tracks, their top ten movies and books. DJ Earworm once again (as he did at the end of 2007) takes it one step further by mashing up the top 25 songs of 2008 according to Billboard Magazine into one cohesive track.

He’s even made a video this year (which in itself is pretty incredible):

Start Spreading the News…

photo-whitney-portWhitney Port has left the Hills and moved on to the Big Apple! In MTV’s newest reality show, The City (which is a spin-off of The Hills which is a spin-off of Laguna Beach…confused yet?), Whitney Port leaves sunny California behind to pursue a fashion career (and perhaps a few cute boys) in NYC.

Hey Josh, I hate high school

Hey Josh,

I hate high school. I work really hard, but I get the same amount
of recognition as other people who don’t work as hard. I love learning,
and I figure college is the right place to go to learn more.

So anyway, how can I deal with being stuck in
high school? And how can I find ways to find self-satisfaction in my
work, because as far as school recognition goes I get just as much as
people who don’t care half as much. I don’t mean to be whiny or
high-horsey (that can’t possibly be a word!).

That’ll wake the neighbors

It’s wintertime, which means that it’s time to get out the old sled. Or if you’re Ky Michaelson, known in some circles as the “Rocketman”, it’s time to attach a rocket onto to your old sled and drag race along the sidewalks of your suburban Minneapolis neighborhood.

Ky’s sled includes a speedometer, a custom steering rig and a bottle motor mount. But more importantly, his website also includes sweet pictures of the sled in action.

It goes without saying that this is something you should not try at home, even if you happen to be a rocket scientist with too much time on his hands.

Crystal Rocks!

nicoleforcrystalHow’s this for an extra curricular activity?  Crystal Audigier (daughter of legendary designer for Ed Hardy, Christian Audigier) started her own clothing line, Crystal Rock, at fifteen!  And before you go thinking she’s just using her daddy’s name, Crystal designs and sketches the whole collection and picks all the fabrics.  (Eco-friendly of course.)  She still goes to class at Beverly Hills High and has a flagship store in LA!  Overachiever much?  Check out her haute fabulousness here: www.shopcrystalrock.com.

So what do you guys think?  Is it good to start on your career while you’re in still high school?  Or is it better to focus on class and being a teenager?  Also, for any of you skilled sewers and design mavens out there looking to start your own line someday, send us pictures of your creations.  We want to share your creativity on the site!  (And if you send us samples we have a very handsome model named Josh who will be happy to pose for the site in your hottest looks…)

BTW, bonus points if you can name who this model is and what TV show made her a STAH.

Top 5 Movies That Will Tide Me Over Until Summer

There is something about the winter season that equals bad movies. Once we get Thanksgiving and Christmas out of the way all the good movies kind of dry up until summer. But have no fear! I poked around the internets and found some movies that I think might just make this cold season a little bit more awesome. What five movies are you looking forward to this winter?

5. Inkheart: (January 23rd) Brendan Fraser plays a character who has the power to bring books to life by reading them out loud, literally. He reads it and then the next thing you know the character is right in front of him. I’ll admit I am a fan of this movie on principle. I like the high fantasy stuff. But what makes it even better is that he starts reading all these classic books like the Wizard of Oz and my childhood favorites start springing to life.

Girl Gamers are on the Move

gamingAttention all chicas with a joystick, all femme Wii aficionados and X-Boxin’ babes: you are not alone!

You may have felt alone with all the ads targeting guys in the gaming world. And why wouldn’t you? Up until now, game marketing gurus have written you off, opting for the shooting-racing-sporting-blood-and-guts fest games because they thought that only boys like to have some fun gaming. Sure, some girls might like to get in on the action/adventure/gorefest train, but not many.  Or so they thought!

He Didn’t Do It!

billstickers1

I love coming across stuff like this on the web. Some town board somewhere gets fed up with people pasting posters (a.k.a. “bills”) and slapping stickers on public property, and so they go to all the trouble of making up a nice sign informing those hooligans that, if the keep sticking stuff up, they’re going to be in “Big trouble, mister!” Then along comes some wise guy or gal, and manages to, once again, turn the whole thing into a joke. Hey, I don’t condone or approve of grafitti… but I think that this Bill Stickers dude has definitely gotten a bad rap. I mean, why blame just one guy? I’d love to see people wearing “Free Bill Stickers” buttons on their jackets this year, or putting “I Support Bill Stickers” magnets on their lockers. It just could be the start of a global movement.
