Girl Gamers are on the Move
Attention all chicas with a joystick, all femme Wii aficionados and X-Boxin’ babes: you are not alone!
You may have felt alone with all the ads targeting guys in the gaming world. And why wouldn’t you? Up until now, game marketing gurus have written you off, opting for the shooting-racing-sporting-blood-and-guts fest games because they thought that only boys like to have some fun gaming. Sure, some girls might like to get in on the action/adventure/gorefest train, but not many. Or so they thought!
Now they’ve come to realize that the girl market is much bigger than they’d thought, and has a lot of room to just keep on growing. Their research shows that girls prefer “social and collaborative games with less competition and more opportunity for personalization and nurturing.”
So, gaming girls out there, speak out! Do you like to race, to fight, to play b-ball with your controller? Or are you into High School Musical 3, Rock Band, or something altogether off the charts? Gab about your gaming style here! Guys, feel free to chime in on what you like to play, too.

I have to say that I’m not much of a gamer but I love playing Kingdom Hearts on playstation 2 and harvest moon on the DS.
I’ve been a gamer for years. People are always surprised too, because it’s true that most people don’t expect to hear it from girls. I play mostly PC games. Games that don’t require a huge amount of skill or strategy. I prefer logic, puzzles, and pure adventure. I love games that have a lot to explore. Worlds where you can roam wherever you want, choose your quests, or choose to do nothing. I also love “sleuthing” games. You’re given a room, an environment, objects to find. You have to use your head and put the objects together to either escape the room or figure out who the murderer was…etc.
I’m not a girl gamer, but I am a gamer. And I’m here to help tell for my female counterpart gamers that I personally know.
Most girl gamers that I know either like (the above post by Kiki) or games that are versatile. I meet girl gamers all the time on Warcraft III. Yes, it’s a really old game. But we love it! Why? It’s got the replayability factor! The game, as most Blizzard games, comes with a map editor. We learn how to make maps (those that are interested anyways.) and create new games for others to play. This gives it such a flexibility that lots of people will play it over and over and STILL have something new to play! It also lets your learn. When you play around with the map editor, you gain experience for game development. Which is something I’m interested in. In fact, this game helped me decide what I want to do for a living! Game Design! I even have a partner! We’ve already set up some stuff and roles for the future. We’re going to Full Sail University.
Man, I’ve really gone off topic. But anyways, these are the types of games that we (not just males, but females too!) love! Replayability! New things! The more unique it is, OR if it’s able to be MADE unique by gamers FOR gamers, then that also adds to Replayability.
So, bottom line: Replayability plays a HUGE factor! Girls and guys alike, Replayability is the thing to consider the most.
ok so i can honestly say i like some of those boyish games, i like the ps3 better though. the games i like to play include;
god of war,
prince of persia,
kingdom hearts,
final fantasy,
call of duty,
assassins creed.
I constantly watch horror movies and play horror and gore games. My girl friends think I’m crazy and my guy friends love me. Blood and guts are the best! I’m best at shooting games, and my boyfriend is best at games with a background plot.
My faves:
Resident Evil
Call of Duty
Fallout 3
I am a girl gamer for sure. Most of my guy friends call me to come and play wii. I am the one that will give every game a chance if you tell me its fun. My favorites are mario kart and rock band for sure though. I also enjoy the basic wii games like tennis and bowling. Video games are a way to pass times with friends and gives you a little competition which is always good. Girls can game too!
Aw, man, I love video games. Some of my favorites are…
anything Mario
Zelda
Tetris
Final Fantasy
Half Life 2
Guild Wars
World of Goo (if you have not played world of goo, go look it up. NOW. It is AMAZING.)
I can’t say that blood and guts are really my thing, but whatever, I love video games
I’m not talented at video games, but I grew up watching my brother play, so I love them none the less. I love to play the game Skate on xbox (way super better than thps, though i used to play that all the time) except that you couldn’t be a girl character. I love zombies and a guy friend just introduced me to Left for Dead, which was great to watch… Oh, and I am a Guitar Hero.
I’m a girl gamer, and proud of it! I love them all. Anything that involves role play like Final Fantasy, to first shooters, like Dirge of Cerberus. I also like games that make you think, like Professor Layton and the Curious Village, hello people wake up games aren’t just for guys any more.
I am def a girl gamer, I play any game that I can get my hands on as long as it’s not a turn by turn RPG. Ten games I LOVE are…
-Elder Scrolls: Oblivion 360
-World of Warcraft!!! PC
-Guild Wars PC
-Elder Scrolls: Morrowind, Bloodmoon etc. PC
-9Dragons Kung Fu…cuz Ima Karate Fiend PC
-Fightnight Round 1-upcoming 4 360
-World of Kung Fu PC
-Assassin’s Creed 360
-Gears of War 360
-Fallout 3!!! 360
I’m a proud gamer. I’ll play almost anything I can get my hands on. In my house, we own most of the consoles out there, and what we don’t have, we have emulators on our laptops. I love games with story lines the most though, but I’ll play blood and gore-fests if that’s all we have at the moment. lol.
One thing I don’t really like about being a female gamer, is everyone’s complete lack of trust in me at work. I work at Wal-mart in the Electronics department, and I’m pretty much second in command under my FEMALE department manager. She put me in charge of the ‘gaming walls’. The other staff in the department come to me for prices, in-stock knowledge, release dates, and summaries of most of the games we sell; but the customers… They think I’m stupid. They think I have no idea what a console is, anymore then they do. So, they will look at me, then ask the guy beside me any gaming question. The only good part is, a lot of the time, the guy turns to me, and as me the question.
But mostly, I hate how people think I know nothing about gaming because I’m a girl. When will people learn to not be so prejudice?

I’ve been playing video games for my whole life and my friends loved me for it. They were pretty much all guys too, but that’s besides the point. A lot of the girls in my school thought I was weird for it but I never paid them any mind. It was what I liked to do and honestly I thought they were missing out on something great.
I’ll play just about anything, whether I want to or whether I am forced. I like playing those silly pokemon games just because at times they do get you to think and yeah, I’m just a plain pokemon nerd at that. There’s Final Fantasy, Dark Alliance, Mario Games, Zelda, Super Smash Bros, whatever.
Then my boyfriend and his friends made me play Gear 2 with them. I really didn’t want to but it turned out to be a lot more fun than I thought since I’m more into RPGs than First Person Shooters. That and I ended up out shooting them with a sniper my first time. Now they want to put us on a harder level, in an open area in a place that has no snipers.
Honestly, it’s about time that the designers and companies realized that there are a lot of female gamers. Heck, we’ve been known to kick guys’ butts more often than they would like to admit. I think they were just afraid to admit that we’re just cool like that XP

I am 21 years old and recently bought a Nintendo DS just for me! I have loved video games ever since I started playing with my dad’s old Atari at the age of three. I might not be into “hardcore” gaming, but there is nothing wrong with a girl enjoying video games.
dude, i don’t get what makes this so abnormal. i sit on my ps3 12 hours a day playing street fighter, killzone 2, resident evil 5, rainbow six, little big planet, mortal kombat and a crap ton of other stuff.
i prefer FPS games where I can test out and mess around with a wide variety of intense weapons, seeing the outcome on the enemy’s head
I usually go through story mode quickly and then the online play
But anyway, I dont see what the big deal is..girls don’t carry violent motives? it’s fun to blow people up. and i’m not the greasy fat typical game nerd, i always thought nerds like, worked hard in school, or something, which i dont..but everyone seems to call me a nerd. so i don’t get it, nor do i care.
