Start Spreading the News…

photo-whitney-portWhitney Port has left the Hills and moved on to the Big Apple! In MTV’s newest reality show, The City (which is a spin-off of The Hills which is a spin-off of Laguna Beach…confused yet?), Whitney Port leaves sunny California behind to pursue a fashion career (and perhaps a few cute boys) in NYC.

To be honest, I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it. Don’t get me wrong…I love Whitney, but she’s always been the drama-free, level-headed gal on The Hills. Let’s face it. In the real world, you want to be around sweet, generous, rational girls like Ms. Port, but when watching TV, you want your fair share of incoherent sobbing, hysterical breakdowns and the occasional screaming match (preferably in a public place). Is that too much to ask? I worried about Whitney’s ability to carry a show all by herself, but after seeing the hour-long premiere tonight on MTV, I have to say I think she can do it! She’s still the epitome of calm, cool, and collected but I think New York is going to add a bit of edge to her. And when you throw her in the mix with new frenemy, Olivia (who is basically the Heidi Montag of the Upper East Side) and an Aussie version of commitment-phobe Justin Bobby named Jay, you’ve got more drama than you know what to do with! So if anyone needs me on Monday nights between 10:00 and 10:30pm, I’ll be stationed in front of my television. Please don’t bother me.

So what did you think of The City? Can Whitney carry a show on her own? Is Olivia more annoying than Heidi? And what about Jay…should Whitney date or dump him? And lastly, is The City, dare I say it, better than The Hills?

I’ve never been a big fan of The Hills but you’ve definitely piqued my interest. Maybe I’ll give The City a try.

I have to agree with you, I was worried about if she could handle a show all on her own, but now I AM SO EXCITED about watching more! To answer you question, I think The City will be way better than The Hills! Go Whitney!

I was a big fan of Laguna, thought the hills was ok, so I’m anxious to see how the city goes especially now that I’ve got the scoop!

I did love me some Hills, but then Spencer and Heidi ruined it for me . . . .you’re right about Whitney, though. She is likable enough to keep me from vomiting in my living room and turning the channel!!
