The Secret’s Out!

Secret LifeThe surprise summer hit, The Secret Life of the American Teenager, returned last night for a new season and a shocking wedding! If you didn’t see it, don’t freak out. You can watch full episodes here.

The show, about wholesome 15-year-old Amy Juergens who makes a major mistake one night at band camp and ends up majorly pregnant, presents a somewhat realistic view on teen pregnancy. The acting, however, is not-so realistic and the writing is just plain cheesy. The show does have its charms though like sarcastic little sister, Ashley (played by India Eisley), who has a brilliant, dry remark for every situation or Daren Kagasoff who makes arrogant bad boy (and Amy’s baby daddy) Ricky come across as vulnerable and endearing.

Last night’s episode ended with a couple of “I do’s” but the real shock was the previews for the upcoming season! A Ricky-Amy-Ben love triangle?!?! The possibility of adoption?! Oh yeah, and the actual birth of Amy’s baby!! It’s definitely going to be an interesting season.

You’ve heard my thoughts, now it’s time to share yours. What did you think of last night’s episode? What do you love and hate about this show? Who should Amy be with: Ben or Ricky? (My vote’s for Ricky; Ben’s just kind of annoying!) How realistic do you think this show really is? Does anyone have any real life experience to share from? Sound off here!!

I haven’t seen much of the show, but I’ve seen enough episodes to get the gist of it. I agree with your point, Ben is annoying. He’s also unrealistic, being as I know no 15-year-old boy who is that caring and sensitive all the time, nor one who speaks so… I dunno, poetically? fortune cookie-like? cheesily?

On a mostly unrelated but slightly related note, I’m quite tired of pop culture trying to convince everyone that band camp is a giant orgy. First American Pie, now with this. Having been to many-a-band camp, I can vouch for the falsity of these statements. Though, I admit, there is always a brewing bandlationship or two, and people, on occasion, have been caught making out in the tuba storage room, we really do spend ninety percent of the time playing instruments at band camp. The rest of our time is spent sleeping (alone), eating, playing spoons and icing our faces. So I think writers need to get a new hook-up camp. Why can’t they get pregnant at AV camp or something?

I don’t like the idea of a show like this. I had a baby 5 months ago and i am 16. I did not marry the father… i didnt need to marry the father… as soon as i saw the commercial for it i was really mad. It does happen yes… and it is not the end of the world… when a girl is 15 or 16 she does not need to get married and she should not get married….
