Hey You, I’m getting Lazy
Attention Advice Cadets,
We interrupt your regularly scheduled programming to bring you Deshane, who is in need of some deep-fried nuggets of wisdom. Dish it up.

Hey Josh!
So recently at school I got a bunch of spares which means I only have like 3 classes while I used to have a full schedule and it’s made me REALLY lazy. I always think I have all the time in the world to do everything so I end up leaving everything to the last minute and wasting a whole bunch of time sitting around doing a whole lot of nothing…and facebook. Haha. I got myself a job and I was hoping having one would push me to learn how to manage my time but I’ve found that it really hasn’t done that.
So I’ve decided maybe the great Josh could help me solve this teensie problem of mine while an essay due a month ago (which I still haven’t started) gathers dust in the corner of my room. I guess this really isn’t a time management issue; it’s more of a lack of much-needed work ethic. I hope I can fix the problem before my grades really plummet. Help!
Puttin’ the funk in the dunk,
Deshane

Yo Deshane, I may not be Josh but I do know the score on this business.
First off, and I apologise for going all “Yokov Smirnoff” on you, but you don’t manage time, time manages you. So what you have to do is change your perception of time. Is something due in 2 months? Well in your mind (and on numerous post-its) remind yourself it’s due in 1! Essentially, half the amount of time you have, and have it done by then.
Yes, you will keep putting it off, but you’ll be putting it off sooner, rather than later and with a little luck, you’ll have it done (almost) on time!

Hey, Deshane! I completely understand you’re problem, and I can definitely relate. I think that maybe you should add more things to your schedule, definitely, but slowly. As in, add something to your schedule once every so often and slowly keep adding things with enough time to get used to doing everything. I hope I helped!
Hey, Deshane! I have alternating study hall days (none on 2 days, 1 on 2 days, 2 on 2 days), so I’ve had this problem before, and, after a while, it just started to take over my common sense. I finally talked to one of my school councilors, who told me that it was simply an organizational problem. She told me that the best way to organize myself would be a quick way to take down information, so we came up with a plan. I carry around a stack of about 10 index cards with each day of the week written at the top of the card (vertical listing; Monday, Tuesday, etc.) Then, throughout the day, I just list the assignments I absolutely need to get done at the top, followed by later due assignments (usually in a different colored pens. Red=urgent. Yellow=do it eventually. Green=If you really want to feel like an over-achiever, do this now!) It works for me because I can quickly access it, and I don’t get distracted when I get started because I am motivated to get the assignment crossed off the list. Hope this helps you, but if it doesn’t, try re-evaluating your organizational methods, because it can really be more simple than you think!
