Going alone is okay if a bunch of your friends are also going stag, but it sucks to be a third wheel. If it's getting close and you don't have a date, swing over to Prom Date Depot and pick up a cute date so you can actually partake in some of the dancing and maybe have a romantic moment or two.

Canes? Really? Noone wants to be dancing while their date is holding a cane because they are scared of their immature friends stealing it.
That is bad. And very uncomfortable. (Hats are cool though =3)
And on the note of make up.
All girls look better with as little make up on as possible. (a.k.a.-none.)
How you look is a part of who you are, and if you're trying to look like someone you're not, chances are they aren't going to get a good first impression off of you. Be comfortable in your own skin, not Drug Mart skin.

>04. Ladies, getting your hair and make-up done is fine. But try to slightly resemble your normal self. When you have so much make-up on that we can’t tell if you’re smiling or frowning, it frightens us.

Oh, yeah. I _h_a_t_e_ it when I see a girl with 100 lbs. of make-up on. It really turns me off. A little is okay, but you have to figure out where to draw the line.
